Autism has made a huge impact on our family. We homeschool our 2 boys, one of which who is autistic.
We do not homeschool a particular method as much as I wish we could, but rather try to survive the best we can with what we have.
I have learned everything I know from blogs. I hope I can be a blessing to others as well.
I get questions all the time of who is who?
D is my 7 year old. He has OCD, but the pediatrician and I have chosen not to get him an “official” diagnosis. It is irrelevant at this point in our lives. We choose to embrace his neat little ability to be overly detailed.
BL is our 6 year old. (they are 12 1/2 months apart) He was diagnosed with moderate to severe autism spectrum disorder when he was 2. He had 1 word at the time. He was not given much of a chance nor were we given much hope. The one thing I have as a tool is God. He has lead us on the most amazing journey with our situation. BL’s vocabulary has exploded. We can actually leave the house with him. (There was a time we could not go anywhere because of his sensory issues.) We NEVER take him to Wal-Mart. But then again…..that place makes my nerves shot too. I accredit this all to biomedical intervention. If you want more info on that, I will be happy to share, but this blog is for our homeschooling journey.
